Twitter for Wine Lovers
By Wink Lorch of Wine Travel Guides
Do you have a passion for wine? And do you tweet? Amazingly the two seem to go together well. The 140-character limit that twitter imposes is perfectly suited to a brief wine tasting note or comment about a wine. Add in a photo of a bottle using twitpic or a link to a recent blog post and a wine lover could easily spend all day browsing the tweets of wine lovers and wine experts from around the world. If you're already on twitter and want to find wine tweeters, there are several ways to do it: 1) The first thing to do is check whether your favourite wine writers and wine bloggers are already on twitter. Many of them are. For fans of traditional wine writers, you will find that from the UK @jancisrobinson @timatkin and even @ozclarke are tweeting along with @winematcher who specializes in wine and food; from the USA @kevinzraly and @ericasimov are on there to name but two. There are masses of wine bloggers who also tweet. Some of my favourites from the UK are @thirstforwine @jamiegoode @woodswine @thewinemaestro and @wine_scribbler; from further afield in Europe there's @catavino in Spain and @frenchwinetours in France (both tweeting in English); in the USA you will find @vinography @drvino @tishwine and many many more worth following including the famous @garyvee (or Gary Vay-Ner-Chuck as he likes to say). 2) You could check out your favourite wine merchant too, more and more are on twitter such as @KermitLynchWine in California or @bibendumwine in London. 3) Even wine producers tweet and in the Northern Hemisphere you might find the odd harvest update soon if they've got time to tweet. My all-time favourite winery tweeter is @RandallGrahm. 4) The #wine symbol is frequently used but as many tweeters have a love-hate relationship with hashtags this might not be the best place to start. 5) There are plenty of wine-specialist magazines to follow and wine news aggregators such as @TopWineNews or @GetYourWineNews. Twitter is definitely a great place to find some good wine news snippets, information about grapes and wines you've never heard of or simply to make some wine friends. Do follow me at @WineTravel and hope you enjoy the small selection of wine tweeters I follow on twitter. |
